Singer. Spacemaker. Showgirl.
Meet TAYLOR ALXNDR (they/she), the underground drag icon and queer artist making a big splash in Atlanta and beyond. TAYLOR may have been raised in the country outskirts of bustling ATL, but has been making waves and turning heads in the big city since 2011.
Co-founder of Southern Fried Queer Pride, an Atlanta-based organization that empowers Black and QTPOC communities in Atlanta & the South, TAYLOR’S art and performances are extensions of their community activism and organizing. They are the Mother of the House of ALXNDR, an Atlanta-based drag family and events hub that creates drag-centered, inclusive spaces for marginalized folks to build community.
Far from your typical showgirl, TAYLOR is a spacemaker, whose ability to blend music, drag, and performance with social commentary has made her a fixture in ATL’s LGBTQ+ nightlife & arts scene. TAYLOR got her start performing at local dive bars in Atlanta’s subversive queer drag scene, and sees nightlife as more than just a chance to perform, but as an opportunity to create space and community.
The “DIY pop priestess” made a splash in 2017 with her debut single "Nightwork", which explores the darker layers of drag. “With shots of the singer getting into the gig,” wrote Justin Moran in OUT Magazine, “the visual showcases the behind-the-scenes process of a drag performance—all the gritty hard work that goes into a single night of glamour.” She followed it with her debut project, NOISE, a soundtrack to all the ‘noise’ and dissonance that comes with existing as a queer and trans person of color.
In 2018, TAYLOR released her debut EP HOLOGRAM, which received critical acclaim and was listed as one of the top 10 albums from Atlanta in 2018. An observation of social media, technology, and communication set to dance-floor ready synth-pop with 80s flourishes, Bandcamp called the project “multifaceted, personal pop, designed for community healing but free of grating platitudes,” and “a lovely record, streetlamp-shimmery and radiator-warm, a reminder of the power of interpersonal thoughtfulness and kindness in marginalized communities, and a necessity for these bleak times.”
They released the EP ‘1993‘ in 2022, which candidly explores mental health, loss, and life in a gentrifying city, all with a pandemic as the musical backdrop. The EP juxtaposes the fun, electric synths that make listeners want to dance with the heaviness of the subject matter. A Jill-of-all-trades, TAYLOR writes, produces, and creative directs all of her music and content, infusing her live shows with her background in drag, interest in video projection, and a belief in the power of music to make you think and dance.
As creator of AMEN, the historic Edgewood Ave's premiere drag show and longest running drag show in downtown Atlanta, as well as SWEET TEA, Atlanta's longest running queer variety show, TAYLOR has cemented herself as a true leader and innovator in the world of drag and LGBTQ+ performance. Their work has been recognized with numerous awards, including a 2024 Atlanta Pride Grand Marshal, OUT Georgia's “2021 Next Gen Leader of the Year'', The Trans Life Awards’ Pioneer of Inspiration award, Wussy Mag’s 2023 Peachy Awards for “Best Musician” & “Best Producer”, as well as their 2024 Peachy Awards for “Best Host” & “Best Party”, and “Atlanta's Best Drag Queen & LGBTQ Performer” for multiple years running.
In addition to their many accomplishments, TAYLOR has opened for dynamic artists such as Charli XCX, Chappell Roan, King Princess, Junglepussy, Mr. Twin Sister, Latrice Royale, and Alaska Thunderfuck 5000. They have also toured and performed across the South, and were appointed to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens' LGBTQ Advisory Board for their years of dedicated community work. Their work has been featured in top publications such as Vice, PAPER, Forbes, Out Magazine, Vogue, and them.
TAYLOR has turned humble beginnings of singing in churches and at family functions, always enamored by the beauty in performance and art, to being one of the most important DIY powerhouses in Atlanta. The best part of it all? They’re just getting started.
